why i've always been bored by Banksy

its just so "A" level Art.

really.

The ideas are ill formed and a bit juvenile. If he was 17 I'd think "prat" but he isn't and people are buying his crap and I just think..... why? Simply for the profile?

here's one that illustrates my point. "One nation under CCTV".
erm, hardly topical or cutting edge is it? And obviously done with the approval of the Royal Post who had a CCTV camera next to where it was painted.
Now, its not that a surveillance culture isn't something to be worried about but we've been worried about it to various degrees for over 10 years. And at times we've recoiled from it and others embraced it (images of a child being led away through a shopping centre, "have you seen this man" who has a bomb in his rucksack...)

If you are gonna do something like this at least make it topical or shed new light on the issue (abuse of power? not asking for permission eroding other notions of liberty?) or (jeezus) just a pun or something. "One Nation in camera" for instance. y'know, we don't get access.....

I dunno, its just always disapointing when the media (and people with money) focus on stuff that's so weak. (finally??) there was some good stuff at the Photographer's Gallery for instance. And that's off the top of my head.

They've got Auerbach drawings by the toilets at the National.
(almost a lyric by Arctic Monkeys or something)

I'm rambling but its just difficult to be focused when there are so many idiots to try to ignore.

a typical london sunday

that was nice. spent an afternoon in Regent's Park with me bruvver.

It was an odd tree-hugging event, espousing all things 'sustainable' and 'good'. lots of signing of petitions and reading of flyers to demonstrations and talks. Obviously not by us, we had a female friend to do all that.

Also lots of homeopathic medicines, yoga, "chi", natural remedies, biodegradable bags and starch forks etc etc ad nauseum.

Wanted to set up a Snake-oil stall and see if anyone wanted to buy. Rueful look from bro told me to whisht.

All in all a nice chat and bit of frisbee with too much sun - all in all a good afternoon.

Thank god there wasn't any poetry reciting from the slightly over-enthusiastic compere on stage to spoil it.
